Exactly thirty years after Saab presented its first turbocharged model at the 1977 Frankfurt Show, the Swedes took the wraps off the limited edition 9-3 Turbo X. Based on the recently facelifted 9-3 Aero X, the all-wheel-drive Turbo X is equipped with a 280 hp 2.8V6 turbo engine which can combined with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. According to Saab, the 9-3 Turbo X that is available in Sedan and SportCombi variants accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 sec (manual). Its top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph).
Apart from the bodykit, the updated interior, the larger brake discs, the 18-inch alloy wheels and the revised suspension, what makes the Turbo X a bit more special is the standard electronically-controlled, rear limited slip differential (eLSD) which can transfer up to 40% of torque to whichever wheel has more grip. It looks cool, its technical specifications sound promising but something tells us that the German competition is still out of reach
